THRIVE PHYSIOTHERAPY

Falls Prevention & Healthy Ageing

Physiotherapist-led strength, balance, and confidence programmes for older adults. Delivered on-site with community organisations across South East London and Kent.

Thrive provides falls prevention and healthy ageing programmes for community organisations. Programmes are delivered by HCPC-registered physiotherapists and draw on established, evidence-based falls prevention approaches such as FaME and OTAGO, tailored to each group and individual.

Progressive strength and balance programmes are recommended in national falls prevention guidance (NICE). Clinical delivery allows programmes to include participants who are frail, fearful of falling, or managing long-term conditions, who are often excluded from general exercise classes.

Who we work with

Charities & community centres

Physiotherapist-led falls prevention groups that members can access without a referral or waiting list.

All housing & care settings

Regular on-site strength and balance sessions for residents, from sheltered and retirement housing to residential care.

What programmes include

Falls risk assessment

Each participant is assessed before joining, so exercises are graded correctly and higher-risk individuals are identified.

Progressive strength and balance sessions

Delivered weekly in blocks, progressing over time. Group delivery with individual grading.

Getting off the floor practice

Practising getting down to and up from the floor safely, reducing the risk of a long lie after a fall.

Outcome measures

Recorded at the start and end of each block, with a written report for the organisation's records and for funder or commissioner reporting.

Healthy ageing beyond falls

Strength and balance work also supports independence with daily activities, confidence to remain active and social, and the mobility that helps people stay in their own homes for longer. Programmes are designed to be sustainable for participants to continue long term.
